iOS – fondly known as iPhoneOperating System is Apple’s trademark operating system, powering all their major chunk of devices. It was originally developed for iPhone only, and later on the support has been extended for other Apple Inc.’s devices such as iPod touch, iPad and lastly Apple TV. The Apple Inc. does not allow the installation of iOS on third-party hardware.
The latest version of iOS – iOS 5 went live on October 12, 2011. The most exciting features are:
Ø The notifications extend to the lock screen too, so you can see more stuff right away without unlocking your phone
Ø iMessage; allowing you to leave conversations on your iPhone and continue them in your iPad

Ø New Reminders app; makes it easy to make to-do list
Ø New Mail app; Rich text formatting, indentation control, message flagging, etc.
